LANCASTER - June Arlene Monahan, 75, passed away at Country Village Genesis Eldercare Center, Tuesday morning, May 17, 2011, at 6:17, after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Monahan was born in Groveton, NH, on August 15, 1935, the daughter of Norman Wheeler and Ruth (Collins) (Wheeler) Howland.
June was a longtime Lancaster resident. She attended Lancaster Academy and earned her diploma in 1953. In 1985 she took nursing courses at Berlin Technical College. She married Joseph Franklin Harold Monahan on March 7, 1953. He predeceased her in 2008.
Her many interests included reading, knitting, crocheting, going shopping, going out for lunch and spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a great faith in God.
Family members include daughter and son-in-law, Kim (Monahan) and Lloyd Ingerson of Jefferson, son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Elaine Monahan of Stark, daughter and son-in-law, Jodi (Monahan) and Wes Welcome of East Concord, VT, daughter Penny (Monahan) Bradford of Lancaster, daughter Peggy (Monahan) Burchardt of Afghanistan, son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Robin Monahan of Gilman; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents Norman Wheeler and Ruth Howland; her father and mother-in-law, Frank and Esther Monahan; and three brothers.
Visiting hours will be held Friday afternoon and evening, May 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Reverend Seth Frink, pastor of the Lancaster Assembly of God, will officiate. Cremation will follow with a graveside committal service to be held Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 PM in Northumberland Cemetery. \
