WHITEFIELD - Larry R. Smith, 62, of Shirlaw Drive, died suddenly at his home Saturday evening, September 28th, 2019, after a period of failing health.

Mr. Smith was born in Lancaster on October 15, 1956, the son of Ned and Phyllis (Sheridan) Smith. He was raised in Jefferson and was a 1974 graduate of White Mountain Regional High School. In 1976 he married Diane Thompson and through the years they have resided and raised their family in Dalton and Whitefield.

Larry has worked his entire life as a heavy equipment operator and contractor. For most of those years he was employed with Trapper Brown Corp in Holderness. For more than a decade he proudly served with the National Guard. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.

Surviving family members include his wife Diane of Whitefield; a son Christopher Smith, a daughter Melissa Smith Farrow, and a son-in-law Steven Roberts all of Whitefield; four grandchildren, Raegen, Madyson, Brett and Nickolas; siblings, Roberta McGee of Twin Mountain, David Smith of Whitefield, Bruce Smith of Jefferson, Alan Smith of Whitefield, Diane Dupont of Jefferson, Glenda Smith of Lancaster, Mike Smith of Milford, PA, Raymond Smith of Arizona; and many, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Sharon Dupont, Peter Fuller, Shorty Smith and Dick Smith.

Memorial visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, October 2nd, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service and military honors will be held Saturday morning, October 5th, at 11:00 AM in Forest Vale Cemetery, Jefferson. Rev. Dean A. Stiles, pastor of the Jefferson Christian Church, will officiate.
