Lawrence Hartshorn

GILMAN - Lawrence "Lawrie" Hartshorn, 92, died suddenly, Thursday morning, December 27th, 2018, at the Canterbury Inn, St. Johnsbury.

Mr. Hartshorn was born in Gilman on December 17, 1926, the son of Murray and Hazel (Rivers) Hartshorn. During World War II he served with the US Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. For 42 years he was employed at the Gilman Paper Mill.

Lawrie was an avid reader and ice fisherman. He was an active member of several organizations including the Moore Fox American Legion Post 41 (72 years), the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 816 and he was a Free and Accepted Mason of Moose River Lodge #82 in Concord (63 years). After retirement from the Gilman Mill, Lawrie was a volunteer for the Gilman Senior Center, driving the van and delivering meals for 25 years.

He is survived by close friends and cousins. His brother Clinton H. Hartshorn predeceased him.

He was a longtime parishioner of the Gilman Methodist Church. His funeral service will be held Sunday, January 6, at 1:00 PM at the Lunenburg Methodist Church. Reverend Henry Cheney of St. Johnsbury will officiate.

Burial with military honors will be held in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, Lunenburg.
