WHITEFIELD, NH- Lawrence A. Samson, 88, died July 13, 2010, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Samson was born in Jefferson on April 23, 1922, the son of Alfred J. and Gladys M. (Ingerson) Samson.
Raised in Jefferson, he joined the U.S Marine Corps. He served during World War II and fought at Tarawa and Saipan, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.
He worked for the State Highway Dept for 31 years retiring in 1984. He also served as a volunteer for the Lancaster Fire Dept for several years. Other memberships included a lifetime member and past commander of the Lancaster VFW John Weeks Post 3041, the Military Order of the Cooties in Lancaster and the Disabled American Veterans.
Family members include his five daughters, Barbara Allin of Fayetteville, NC, Linda Streeter of Lunenburg, VT, Lorraine Reinhard of Littleton, NH, Gloria Hatfield and JoAnn Samson both of Whitefield, NH, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Marguerite S. Brainhard and Jane Beaton both of Lancaster, NH, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife of forty-five years Dorothy (Willey) Samson, his parents and his brother Richard E. Samson, predeceased him.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening, July 16, from 6-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster. Reverend Raymond Ball, pastor at All Saints Church will officiate.
