Lucille J. Wentworth

STARK - Lucille J. (Demers) Wentworth, 88, passed away on December 12, 2009 at the Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster NH.

She was born February 18,1921 in West Dummer, NH, one of the oldest of the14 children of Alfred and Louisa (Lemieux) Demers.

She was partially raised by her grandmother, Bridget Gonyer who was of Irish decent. She lived in several places with her grandmother, including Portland, Maine, Connecticut, and Berlin, NH.  During that time she was a witness to the burning on the Hindenburg.

She returned home to live with her parents and worked very hard with her mother and sisters in all the daily chores of keeping up with a large family.  She learned many skills such as cooking, crocheting, and sewing from her Mother of which she carried on through her life. She attended the Dummer Hill School and finished the 8th grade in Berlin. She and Glenn Amos Wentworth, also of W. Dummer, were married in Gorham, NH, were they lived a short time before going back to the Dummer area. For a few years they resided in Big Bear Lake, California, but eventually returned to Crystal Village in Stark where they remained and finished raising their family.

Lucille worked many years for Campbell Envelope in Northumberland.  She also worked for a short time at the Groveton Mill and later the mill North Stratford from which she retired.  She enjoyed driving her 57 Chevy to work along with some of the other vehicles she owned. She became very close to the caring and compassionate staff and residents at Country Village during her stay with them.

She is survived by three sons, Clark Wentworth and his wife Judith of Stark Village, Barry Wentworth and his wife Linda of Crystal Village, Stark, and Allen Wentworth of West Dummer Hill. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Abain Demers and his wife Jeanne of Biddeford, ME, David Demers of Groveton; four sisters , Pearl Gilcris of Groveton, Gladys Matherson and her husband Thomas "Roger" of Easton, MA, Dorothy "Dot" Gildeau of Canton, MA, Sr. Mary Lorraine Demers of Jamaica Plains, MA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Glenn Wentworth; her parents; 8 siblings; a daughter-in-law; 2 infant sons and a great-grandson.

There will be no calling hours. Cremation will be followed by interment in the Dummer Hill Cemetery with a private family service in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Salvation Army.
