JEFFERSON - Lucius C. McIntire, 86, passed away on August 15, 2021 at Weeks Medical Center after a very short illness. His two daughters, Lisa and Heather were by his side.
Lucius was born in Jefferson on March 25, 1935, at what used to be the little yellow farmhouse across from the Old Corner Store. He was the son of Clinton McIntire and Isabel (Hartford) McIntire, and a grandson to Della (Stanley) McIntire whose family survived the famous Cherry Mountain landslide in 1885. He grew up in Jefferson and graduated high school at the Lancaster Academy. He joined the Army for a few years and then came back to settle in Jefferson and work at the Waumbek Hotel. This is where he met his wife, Pam, and they were married in 1965. They shared time between Jefferson and Florida, during their first year of marriage, while Lucius worked at the Hillsboro Club on Pompano Beach, Florida. Once they started a family, they made Jefferson their permanent home. He became an employee of the Lancaster National Bank as a teller and ended his banking career after 31 years as the President and CEO. He built an A-frame house on some family land where he resided until 1998. Her retired at that time and decided to build a new home in the same area and tore down the A-frame.
Lucius was an avid bird watcher, taking many road trips to discover anything new. He enjoyed taking pictures of nature and wildlife while he explored. He also kept his birds well fed and many birdhouses around so he could enjoy the birds close up. He loved being outside and enjoying all nature could offer. His property was well taken care of and kept freshly mowed. Family vacations with his daughters and their families to the beach were always a highlight for him. Lucius enjoyed sharing stories and historical facts with anyone that would listen. The grandchildren kept him busy attending their sporting events and programs throughout their school years and beyond. He enjoyed his grandchildren a great deal and was very proud of them. He was often very humorous and found himself laughing at his own jokes.
Lucius was fortunate to spend his retirement traveling to Florida with Pam for seven years. They would spend three winter months as snowbirds and then travel back to Jefferson.
Surviving family members include: his daughter, Lisa (McIntire) Colby and husband Brennan of Lunenburg VT, their children: Taryn (and Ian) from Newport, VT, Cathan (and Kendra), Capri (and Collin) from High Point, NC, and Niah from Lunenburg, VT: daughter Heather McIntire and her son Keir Raven of Lancaster NH; his sister Joy (McIntire) Souza and husband Tom from Groveton, NH; and nieces (Kathleen, Leslie, Charlotte and Lori) and nephews (Darren and Aaron).
