Marguerite F. Cargill

LANCASTER - Marguerite F. Cargill, 90, of Water Street, died Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.

Mrs. Cargill was born in Dalton, NH, on July 6, 1925 the daughter of Clarence and Lila (Potter) Kelly.

Raised in Dalton, Marguerite was a 1944 graduate of Dalton High School.  After high school she went to cosmetology school in Boston and in 1946 she married her late husband and WWII veteran Wilbur "Red" C. Cargill.  She then moved to Lancaster where she resided for the rest of her life.  She loved Lancaster and all things New Hampshire.

Early in her career she worked 7 years as a dispatcher for the NH State Highway Department.  She was later employed 30 years with NH State Police Troop F and the NH Department of Safety in Twin Mountain.

In 1992 Marguerite was awarded the Mel Gallup Award for Volunteer Service.  Much of her life, especially after retirement, was devoted to volunteer work.  At Weeks Medical Center she devoted over 10,000 hours of service as a hospital volunteer.  She was also a Justice of the Peace and a Red Cross volunteer.  In 1993 she started volunteering at the Lancaster Information Booth and for the past several summers at the Lancaster Welcome Center.  She enjoyed helping and visiting with all the travelers that came through town.

Family members include her Daughter Jodi (Cargill) Sarkisian and husband Edward of Paoli, PA, son Scott Cargill and wife Theresa of Charlestown, NH; sister Ruth (Kelly) Williams and husband Patrick of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Angela and Amanda Sarkisian, Andria and Samantha Cargill, Orion Davis; great-grandson Oliver Davis and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and a brother Andrew Kelly.

Burial will be held in the spring in Summer Street Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  A celebration of her life will be held this summer.  An announcement will be made at a later date.
