Mary Jane (Evans) Falkenham passed away peacefully at the Morrison Nursing Home. Here, she was fondly referred to as “MJ” by both the staff and residents. We are grateful for the care she received.

She was born in Lancaster to Roger Evans and Etta (Ramsdell) Evans June 5, 1931. Born the middle child, she was pre-deceased by her siblings, Priscilla (Evans) Truchon, Franklin (Bum) Evans, Sylvia (Evans) Aldrich, and Samuel Evans.

Mary Jane attended school in Lancaster, where she met the love of her life Elwin Falkenham. She graduated valedictorian from Lancaster High School. Then attended the University of NH and Keene State College.

She worked for the telephone company in Littleton and in Boston. On August 29, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Elwin. They moved to Boston and Mary Jane worked to support them, while he was attending Tufts Medical School.

Mary Jane spent many years raising their 5 children at their home on Elm Street. Her home was always open to our many cousins and all the neighborhood children. She also chaperoned school activities, helped with youth Bible studies and supported the Mt. Prospect ski area in many ways.

Mary Jane loved playing tennis, and was a member of the bowling league. She sang in local choruses and in the church choir. She was an active member of the United Methodist church in Lancaster, and was well-known for the abundance of baked goods she’d make for the Christmas Bazaar every year.

After their children left home, Mary Jane and Elwin traveled to far away places. They enjoyed visiting China, Ireland, Panama and Iceland, just to name a few.

In 2019 they decided to simplify life and moved to Independent Living at Summit by Morrison in Whitefield, NH where they lived comfortably for two years, making new friends and enjoying activities.

After Elwin passed, Mary Jane had the blessing of meeting Bob Slater. They fell in love and shared a commitment ceremony with their families on June 5, 2024. Bob was an unexpected gift in her last few years.

Mary Jane was pre-deceased by her husband, Elwin, daughter Sally and granddaughter Jennifer Fargo.

She leaves behind children Carol (Falkenham) Dillingham and husband Michael of Rochester, NH, Ann (Falkenham) Fargo and husband Richard of Chatham, NH, Mary Ellen (Falkenham) Fuller and husband Russell of Colebrook, NH, and David Falkenham and wife Jokie of Lancaster. Grandchildren, Ryan Dillingham, Laura (Dillingham) Morgan, Jeffrey Fargo, Marion (Fuller) Fogg and Elise (Fuller) Gaumond. Great Grandchildren, Isaac Morgan, Avery Morgan, Kaelyn Dillingham, Annelise Fogg and Oliver Fogg.

There will be a graveside burial service and a celebration of life at a future date.
