Matthew Thomas Corrigan

June 15, 1961 — April 11, 2020

LANCASTER - After an extended illness, Matthew Thomas Corrigan passed away peacefully in his sleep this past Saturday morning, April 11th.

Matt was a lifelong resident of Lancaster, growing up in his parents' home up on Portland Street. You know the one, you could always find it at Christmas time with Santa and his reindeer on the front lawn. Matt grew up helping his Mom and Dad set up Santa each year, a tradition he carried on when he moved into his parents' home to raise his family there too.

Lancaster was Matt's home, and he loved everything about it. He would remind you that he lived in the middle of "God's Country", and Matt knew how to enjoy it as he hunted, fished, camped - and as his health deteriorated - drove most everywhere, taking in the abundance of nature that the Great North Woods has to offer.

Matt graduated from White Mountains Regional in 1979 where he played baseball with his buddies. His love of sports extended to softball, golf and wiffle ball. A little known fact about Matt is that he was the reigning Wiffle Ball Champ of Portland Street for his entire youth - pretty easy when the competition consisted of himself, hitting against the backside of the house for hours on end. Matt's love of sports included his regional teams as well - he was especially passionate about the Red Sox and Patriots.

Matt was known by many and liked by all. When you would see him, he would eagerly tell you a new joke or story - a valuable skill when delivering appliances purchased from the family-run Sears catalog store, working as a cook later in life or sitting in the backyard with family by the fire. The jokes and stories were always followed by Matt's big laugh, a wonderful way for us all to remember him.

Matt was a dedicated family man and loved us all. Years ago he coined the term 'Bastard Brigade' while at camp with his brother Mitch. The phrase is now part of the family vernacular used as a euphemism of affection within the Corrigan clan.
He is survived by his former wife, Heather Corrigan, his children, Casey, Keeghan, and Kaleigh. His grandchildren, Kamden, Sage, AvaLeigh and Nolan, as well as his siblings, Maryrose Corrigan, Mitch Corrigan, Colleen Truland and Patty Wyman.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM in Summer Street Cemetery. A reception will follow at Colonel Town Recreation.
