MAIDSTONE - Melvin Arnold Rowe Sr., 83, died Tuesday evening August 23, 2011, at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab. Center.

Mr. Rowe was born in Charleston, VT on February 5, 1928 the son of Howard Harold and Juanita Anastasia (Wing) Rowe.

Melvin was a lifetime resident of Maidstone. He served with the US Army during WWII. For most of his life he was a farmer, he was employed at the Peaslee Farm in Guildhall for many years.

He was an outdoorsman who loved to cut trees, make trails and hunt. He enjoyed gardening and two-step dancing.

He was a member of the Littleton VFW.

Family members include his wife Lucille (Leach) Rowe of Maidstone, two sons, Melvin Rowe Jr. of E. St. Johnsbury and Bruce Rowe of Epping, NH and his daughter Mary Anne Good of Ohio, five step-children, Andrew Wetherell of Franklin, MA, Barbara Zalneraitis of Baldwinville, MA, Larry Wetherell of Rindge, NH, Cynthia Wetherell of Clinton, MA and Suzanne Grego of Clinton, MA, a half brother Merle Damon of Groveton, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 11 step great grandchildren and his adopted family Geraldine McVetty and her children.

Memorial calling hours will be held Thursday September 1, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday morning at 11 AM in the Glenwood Cemetery, Littleton. Reverend Aaron Cox will officiate.
