Michael W. Beattie

LANCASTER - Michael W. Beattie, 68, died Friday morning February 17, 2012, in Lancaster at his brick house on Main Street.

Mr. Beattie was born on October 29, 1943, the son of Stanley J. Beattie and Addie E. (Hillier) Beattie.

Mike was a lifetime resident of Lancaster.  He served as selectman for 18 years and was also a longtime member and Assistant Chief of the Lancaster Fire Department.  He was a charter member of the Lancaster Snow Drifters where he served as chairman of the Snowmobile Grand Prix

and was Trail Master for 8 years.  For many years he served on the Board of Directors at Siwooganock Bank.

He was a Communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster.

In 1966 he started Beattie Enterprises which constituted several businesses including ownership of Riverside Speedway for 14 years.  Other business included the startups of a Montgomery Ward Agency, the Lancaster Colonial Mart, the Detour Truck Stop, WLGW Radio Station and his long time running construction business.  He also enjoyed hot rodding, hunting, snowmobiling, auto racing, and going to camp.  His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.

Surviving family members include his wife Sally (McLaughlin) Beattie of Lancaster; his son Shane Beattie and wife Trina of Lancaster;  two daughters, Sandy Belanger and husband Marc of Whitefield, Kricket Ingerson and husband Mitch of Jefferson; and seven grandchildren, Adrienne, Mercedes, Tyler, Benjamin, Spencer, Katherine and Gracie. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Susan Beattie Carpenter.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, February 20, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10:30 at All Saints Church, Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory for the fire department and ambulance corps of Lancaster at Lancaster Fire Department Assn., 25 Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584.
