Michael Dow

July 14, 1946 — July 21, 2024

Michael Fay Dow, 78, of Lunenburg, VT. passed away on July 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 14, 1946 in Montpelier, VT. to Fay and Mildred (Fahner) Dow.

He attended schools in East Concord and in Waterbury, VT., where his family moved when he was in graded school.

He was married to Georganna Grant of East Concord on September 17, 1967. They bought land and built a house on his uncle’s property in Waterbury Center and resided there for eleven years. They moved to the Grant family homestead in Lunenburg in 1979 after the death of his father-in-law, James Grant. They lived in the upstairs apartment of the homestead for ten years and built a log home in the field. Their “dream home”. He cut and sawed most the logs at his sawmill and felt a sense of accomplishment and pride in having done that. They moved into the log home in 1990.

Mike worked for several construction companies throughout his life, also as a self-employed flooring installer, and worked for the Town of Lunenburg as a road foreman. He was happiest out in the woods, logging and sawing the logs at his sawmill.

He always looked forward to salmon fishing trips in New York state and staying at hunting camp with family and friends. His regret was that he would not be doing either of these again.

He was a member of the East Concord United Methodist Church and served as trustee for many years. He was a member of Moose River Lodge #82 in Concord and was a Past Master of Winooski Lodge #49 in Waterbury. He was a member of Adah Chapter #39, Order of the Eastern Star in Concord and formerly a member of Queen Esther Chapter #7 in Waterbury. He was a Past Worthy Patron in both Chapters and was Worthy Patron in Adah Chapter at the time of his death. He also held the office of Grand Warder for the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the years.

Last summer, he and Georganna took the trip of a life time and went on a cruise to Alaska. They joined friends and their daughter and son-in-law for a trip full of wonderful memories.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Georganna, children, Donna Paquette (Lincoln)of Concord, and son Christopher (Krystle) Dow of Lunenburg. Grandchildren, Felicia, Hillary, Alex, Olivia, Asher, and Oakleigh and great grandchildren, Riley, Raelyn, Aurora and Grayson, and his brother, Terry Dow of Brookfield, VT., as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, Fay and Mildred, his brother “Punk” Dow and his sister, Jacqueline LaVanway.

A celebration of life will be held at the East Concord United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 4 at 1:00 with an Eastern Star memorial service. Visiting hours will be at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster, N.H. on Saturday, August 3 from 6-8 with a Masonic memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Caledonia Home Health and Hospice Agency, 161 Sherman Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT. 05819.
