LANCASTER - Michael G. Waninger, 74, of Main Street, died Friday morning, August 6, 2010, at Weeks Medical Center.
Mr. Waninger was born in the Bronx, NY, on September 8, 1935, the son of George and Marie (Redel) Waninger.
He graduated from New York City Community College in 1956 with an associate degree in applied science. For many years he resided in Connecticut where he was employed with Fidelity Union Life. Thirty-two years ago he moved to New Hampshire and was employed for a time at Blais Wholesale, Berlin. He and his wife Catherine were the former owners of the Village Peddler in Gorham for 22 years.
Michael was a member and past president of the Fairfield County Fish & Game, in Sandy Hook, CT, and former Director of the Berlin-Gorham Chamber of Commerce. He also served in the US Navy.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and walking his two dogs Buddy and Baby.
Family members include his wife of 35 years, Catherine F. (Small) Waninger of Lancaster; a daughter, Laurie Waninger of Sullivan, NH; two sons, Michael K. Waninger of Oswego, NY, Daniel S. Waninger and wife Lynne of Beacon Falls, CT; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Wednesday, August 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.
