GUILDHALL, VT- Murray C. Hodgdon, 78, died October 20, 2009 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.

Mr. Hodgdon was born in Concord, Vermont on July 13, 1931 a son of Sullings and Jennie (Wilson) Hodgdon.

Murray was raised in Granby, VT and was a 1949 graduate of Lyndon Institute. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. For a time he worked construction, owned and operated a convenience store and gas station where he did small engine repair and for 30 years he operated a rubbish removal business. He was also a former side judge and tax collector. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #82 in Gorham.

Family members include his wife Naomi (Hurlbutt) Hodgdon of Guildhall, a son Vaughn Hodgdon and his wife Dorothy of Guildhall; three grandchildren Stephen Hodgdon and his wife Lisa of Danville, VT, Jennifer Poulton and her husband Kevin of Littleton and John Hodgdon and his wife Nicole of Granby, VT, 6 great grandchildren, Zoe, Makenna, K-Leigh, Kasen, Windsor and Tyson, a brother Fredrick Hodgdon of Granby, VT and a sister Barbara Brown of Granby. A brother Donald Hodgdon and a sister Vivian Brown predeceased him.

Memorial visiting hours will be held Thursday October 22, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service will be Friday morning at 11:00 AM at the Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall. Reverend Gerry Piper of Springfield, VT will officiate.
