Neal Wells

July 7, 1947 — July 19, 2021

Neal Wells, 74, of Lancaster passed away at his home on July 19, 2021.

Born in Concord, on July 7, 1947, Neal was the son of the late Neal Wells and Dorothy (Young) Wells (Bean). He was a childhood polio survivor and this was indicative of his strong spirit. He was a 1965 graduate of Pembroke Academy.

Neal worked as a blacksmith for the past 40 years, self-employed at Vulcan Forge Blacksmith Shop in Lancaster. Among his many hobbies, Neal dabbled in photography, was an avid RC plane pilot, and enjoyed time with his wife on their three-wheeled motorcycles. After receiving their endorsements in their seventies, they spent many hours touring the north country back roads and even rode the infamous Tail of the Dragon.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 53 years, Joan Wells; his brothers Carson (Pete) Wells and his wife Mary Ann, Daniel Wells and his wife Sheila; his sons Neal Wells and his partner Lee Ann Trueworthy, Brian Wells and his fiancée Stephanie Humphries; his daughter Heather Wells and her partner Robert Kerin-Herrick; his daughter-in-law Marie Wells; and his grandchildren Raven and Neal Wells. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Dorene Young.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 31 at the Christ United Methodist Church in Lancaster with a reception to follow. Family is requesting donations to the Post-Polio Health International in lieu of flowers. Donations can be made online at https://post-polio.org/support-us/donate/ .
