Nels Philip Nelson III, better known as “Poppy the Ole Cowboy”, 83, passed away peacefully in his farmhouse on Friday, September 27th. Pop started his journey in Guildhall, VT in 1971 when he migrated from New Jersey. He lived a great life surrounded by those who loved him. A long list of lasting friendships from high school, as well as friends who welcomed him to the North Country over 50 years ago. He was blessed to have a large family who loved him. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen Nelson and sister Margarite (Peggy) Nelson. He is survived by his two boys Nels Philip Nelson IV (wife Bella) of Guildhall, VT and his son Christopher Nelson (wife Tracey) of Jefferson, NH. Poppy took pride in having six beautiful, loving, successful grandchildren. Each one as perfect as the next, Eric Nelson (wife Meagan) of Berlin NH, Jake Nelson of Guildhall VT, Kyle Nelson (partner Madison Bean) of Jefferson, NH, Kaitlyn Poulin (husband Alec) of Berlin, NH, Kegan Nelson of Jefferson, NH and Megan Nelson of Buxton, ME. He was fortunate to meet and enjoy a few years with his great grandsons, Theodore Nelson and Warren Poulin. Pops was very proud of the family he created. Watching them play sports and turn into young adults brought him the most pleasure!
He built a very successful business, Nelson and Sons Plumbing & Heating in Lancaster, NH. He spent his life filling the dash from 1941 (-) 2024 by watching his sons play sports, coaching their teams, going to hunting camp, building lasting memories and instilling good family values in his boys. He spent his later years dancing, riding his Harley Davidson, snowmobiling, hunting, traveling, riding horses, building his Ranch and tending to the farm. He had a love for animals and had many pets over the years including cows, a pet raccoon, goats, dogs and horses. He will be greatly missed by many.
There will be a graveside service on October 26th at 11am at the Ridgwell Cemetery in Guildhall, VT followed by a celebration of life at his Ranch on North Road.
