Norman Joseph Santerre

May 18, 1926 — February 3, 2010

LUNENBURG, VT- Norman Joseph Santerre, 83, formerly of Gardner and Fitchburg, MA, died Wednesday evening February 3, 2010, at Country Village Genesis Elder Care Center, Lancaster.

Mr. Santerre was born in Gardner, MA on May 18, 1926, the son of Avelin J. and Mary (McDonough) Santerre.

Norman was a graduate of Gardner High School. During WWII he served in the US Navy, on the aircraft carrier, Shangri-La under Admiral McCain. He was a steamfitter foreman for General Electric Company, Fitchburg, MA, retiring after 30 years. He was also a member and past president of Union IUE/CIO Local 286 General Electric, Fitchburg, MA,

From 1946 to 1949 he played semi-pro football for Hillside Gymnastics in Gardner, MA and in the 1960's he was the president of Fitchburg, MA Babe Ruth League.

Memberships include the VFW and the Eagles and he was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed sports, especially the Red Sox, Patriots, Boston Celtics and college football. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with him family, to whom he was very devoted.

Family members include his son Ronald Santerre and his wife Betty of Lunenburg, VT, his daughter in-law Donna Santerre of Mannassas, VA, five grandchildren, Rebecca Boutot and Jeremy Santerre both of Lancaster, NH, Rachel Bebb of Ocala, FL, Holly Tousha and Crystal Funderburg both of Knokesville, VA, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His wife Rose Mary (Belliveau) Santerre, two sons Gary Santerre and Kenneth Santerre, three sisters Doris LaFond, Lorraine LaJoy and Georgette Santerre, predeceased him.

Visiting hours will be held Monday afternoon February 8, 2010 from 2-4 PM at the 210 Main Street, Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at All Saints Church, Lancaster. Reverend Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate.  A graveside service will be held in the spring at Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner, MA.
