JEFFERSON – Opal L. Bronson, 83, of Stag Hollow Road, died at her home Saturday, January 14, 2023.
Opal was born on July 21, 1939 in Richford, Vermont, the daughter of H. Alvin and Pearl (Perry) Gross.
She was a graduate of Lancaster High School and has been a longtime resident of Jefferson. For 52 years she served as the Jefferson Town Clerk, a job she performed from home in the early years. She was a member of the Jefferson Christian Church, the Highlander Snowmobile Club, and the Jefferson Library, of which she was an active fundraiser for. At one time she enjoyed crafting and was known for her baking skills; especially her homemade donuts, received by many as a Halloween treat.
Surviving family members include her children, Laura Bronson of Jefferson, Ellen Griswold (Mark) of South Windsor, CT, Donna Bizier (Marc) of Milan, NH; five grandchildren, Andria Cargill, Samantha Cargill, Alexander Griswold, Brian Griswold, Jacob Griswold; one sister, Sandra Montgomery; two half-sisters, Millie Murgida, and Allison Childs; and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased family includes her husband, Vernard Bronson; a daughter Sara Cargill; and brothers Douglas, Coleman, Calvin “Joe”, Walter “Doc”, Neil, and Malcolm Gross.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 25th @ 11:00AM in the Jefferson Community Church. Reverend Dean A. Stiles, pastor, will officiate. A luncheon will follow the Community Center in Jefferson. Burial will be in the Kilkenny View Cemetery, Jefferson.
