EAST CONCORD, VT- Paul A. Belair, 73, died peacefully on Friday morning May 15, 2009, at Country Village Center Genesis Eldercare, Lancaster after a long illness.

Mr. Belair was born in Randolph, VT on October 28, 1935, the son of Joseph and Adella (Poirier) Belair.

He grew up in Quincy, MA and Randolph, VT, before settling in Rockland, MA, to raise a family with his wife, Joanne. He worked as a drafting engineer for many years at Sigma Instruments in Braintree, MA. After weekending in VT for 8 years, he and Joanne made East Concord, VT their home.

Paul was a devout Catholic, serving his Lord as a Eucharistic Minister, a lector and catechism teacher. He was most recently a parishioner at All Saint Catholic Church in Lancaster and enjoyed the company of his friends in the Men of St. Joseph's group.

He was a wonderful Papa to Geoffrey Graham, Devin Belair, Kourtnei, Austin Tyler and Mykayla Martin, Sam Hosford and Elijah and Grady Walters. In his grandchildren, he found great joy, spending time with them, marveling at the way they grew and changed and loving them. He was also overjoyed to have two little great-granddaughters, Aysjah Willis and Mariyah Belair. He was also a very special person to his goddaughter, Sara Mackiewicz, of Belchertown, MA and was "Uncle Papa" to many.

Paul's hobbies and interests included, flying and being a flight instructor, gardening, yard work, snow machining, being a member of the Guildhall Fun Flyers, fishing, hunting, volunteering at Weeks Medical Center and tinkering around his home.

In addition to his grandchildren, Paul leaves his wife of 43 years, Joanne (Mackiewicz) Belair of East Concord, his daughters Paulette Martin of Leland, NC, Noelle Hosford and her husband Ron of Gilman, VT and Brigette Walters and her husband Bruce of Lancaster. He also leaves a sister, May Belair of Stafford Springs, CT. He was predeceased by, two grandson's, Geoffrey and Sam, as well as two brothers, Donald and Roger and three sisters, Gloria Bickford, Anita Spruce and Charlotte Russo. As a compassionate animal lover, he also leaves behind his two cats, Echo and Sweetie.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday morning June 6, at 10:00 AM at All Saint's Church, Father Raymond Ball, pastor will officiate.
