Paul W. Sullivan

LANCASTER - Paul W. "Red" Sullivan, 75, died Thursday morning March 29, 2007, after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his wife and children at his home on 18 Wolcott Street. Mr. Sullivan was born one of six children to Frank James and Estella Ruth (Floyd) Sullivan on September 18, 1931 in Lost Nation in Groveton. He was a lifelong resident of the North Country and farmed during his youth. Attending Groveton schools he graduated from Groveton High School in 1951. He then attended trade school in Randolph, VT. From 1953-55 he was enlisted with the US Army and served on peacekeeping missions in Germany during the Korean Conflict. On returning home he worked for Seward Construction, Cray Oil Company, Wally Kingsley's gas station, and a brief time for the US Postal Service. For many years he was employed with Morris Building Materials that later became Kilkenny Building Center. He retired in 1996 but continued to work at Kilkenny part time. Along with his busy life he and his wife have been custodians of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ for 41 years. Paul enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren and helping his son with his greenhouse business. He loved and enjoyed his family, home and garden, and was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post #3041, Lancaster, and the National Rifle Association. Family members include his loving wife, Gloria M. (Flynn) Sullivan of Lancaster; a son Frederick Sullivan and his wife Patti, of Lancaster; a daughter Pamela J. (Sullivan) Frizzell and her husband Robert of Groveton; a sister Frances Pepau and her husband John of Percy, NH; grandchildren, Allison Marie Sullivan and Paul Robert Frizzell, Abbey and Amanda Frizzell; Randy and Nicholas Blodgett along with Lynne, Dawn, Sherri and their families; a great granddaughter Kamryn Jaycee Ledger, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Bea Flynn; many nephews, nieces, and cousins. A son Edward P. Sullivan, his parents, four siblings, James, Donald, Forrest and Gladys all died previously. Visiting hours will be held Sunday evening April 1, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Funeral service will be held Monday morning at 11:00 AM at the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster. Co-officiating will be Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Bentum, pastor, and Rev. Curtis W. Smith of Lancaster. Burial with military honors will follow in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
