LANCASTER – Peter A. Whitney, 67, of Summer Street, died Thursday morning, November 23, 2023, at Country Village Genesis Eldercare Center after several months of failing health.
Pete was born in Lancaster on January 29, 1956, the son of Burleigh and Melvina Clara (Huntington) Whitney. He graduated from White Mountain Regional High School and served four years in the US Army during the Vietnam era.
Except for a time in Montana and Alaska, Pete resided most of his life in Lancaster. For many years he worked for the NH Department of Transportation in Jefferson and Lancaster. He also enjoyed farming and worked at the Forbes Farm in Lancaster whenever possible.
Pete enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed Lancaster Fair and the horse pulls where he operated the tractor in the pulling ring for many years. He was also a dog lover, and his favorite pastime was to ride around in his truck with his loyal canines. Pete was a good family man, and his grandkids meant the world to him. He was also a good friend to all. On many occasions he provided rides to anyone, at any time, for any reason.
Surviving family members include his longtime companion, Lisa Parks; his three stepchildren, Tiffany Parks (Les), Goobie Parks (Melissa), Taylor Parks, his grandchildren, Jon, Boe, and Hunter; his siblings, Burleigh, L. Whitney, Thomas Whitney, Michael Whitney, Laurel Whitney Fjell, Juanita Whitney Thomas, Benjamin Whitney, Kenny Whitney, and Penny Whitney Buckalew with her children Jessica and Josh Savage; and many nieces and nephews.
