LANCASTER - Philip G. Page, VMD, 70, died May 26, 2011 at home with family after a period of declining health.

He was born April 2, 1941 to Dr. H. Gordon Page and the late Louise Doe Page in Burlington, VT. In 1963 he married the love of his life Nancy Reynolds Page who survives him along with his daughters, Lauri and husband Michael Boivin, Suzanne and husband Andrew Pyszka, Sarah and husband Aly Hirji, and son, Scott and wife Suzanne. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Katie Boivin, Tom Boivin, Michael Pyszka, Ashlee Hirji, Shayla Hirji, Nicole Page, Erica Page and Kevin Page. He leaves behind his sisters, Julia Paton of Huntington Beach, CA and JoAnn Nielson of Burlington, VT as we as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dr. Page graduated from Burlington High School in 1959 and the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1966.

He first practiced in Middlebury, VT, Concord, NH and Dover, NH, before moving to Lancaster to establish his own practice in 1969. He built and practiced in the current Lancaster Veterinary Hospital until his retirement in 2006. He initially treated both large and small animals later choosing to focus on small animals. He has a special interest in cardiology and orthopedics at a time when veterinary specialist were not readily available.

Dr. Page has been a member of the Christ United Methodist Church since 1970. He joined the Lancaster Rotary Club in 1969 and helped to organize the first Rotary Auction in 1970 and chaired the committee for 30 years.

He served on the Lancaster Budget Committee, Col. Town Spending Committee and the Lancaster Zoning Board. He also helped to organize and incorporate the Lou Leaver memorial Fund in 1993.

An avid sportsman, Dr. Page enjoyed skeet, sporting clays, archery as well as hunting and fly fishing. He was active in the Groveton Fish and Game Club, having held several offices over the years and worked with the local chapter of the Friends of NRA. He started the 4-H shooting sports club, Coos Sharp Shooters.

Dr. Page was well versed in Civil War history and enjoyed visiting battlefield parks as well as building reproduction muzzle loading pistols and rifles, which he gifted to family members.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 9 at 1:00 PM.
