Philip L. Smith Sr.

June 4, 1941 — March 11, 2010

JEFFERSON - Philip L. Smith Sr., 68, died at his home Thursday morning March 11, 2010, after a long illness.

Mr. Smith was born in Goffstown, NH, on June 4, 1941, the son of Lawson and Charlotte (Fiske) Smith.

He was raised in New Boston and served in the US Army in Korea shortly after the Korean Conflict. Philip was involved in the trucking business most of his life. For many years he was a truck mechanic and for 20 years he owned and operated Smith and Sons Trucking in Jefferson. He enjoyed sports and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed spending time at home especially with his grandchildren.

Surviving family members include his wife of 44 years, Betty (Houghton) Smith of Jefferson; three sons, Bruce Simmons of California, Philip L. Smith Jr. and Jeffrey Smith both of Jefferson; a daughter Tanya Foster of Littleton; seven grandchildren, Phillip Hutchinson, Felicia Hutchinson, Jessica Smith, Joshua Foster, Samantha Smith, Matthew Foster, Ryan Smith; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Renton "Rusty" Smith of New Boston and Newt Smith of Londonderry. A brother Vaughn Smith predeceased him.

There are no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
