JEFFERSON - Phyllis R. Kenison, 96, formerly of Meadows Road, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, September 22, 2010, with family at her side at The Morrison in Whitefield.
Mrs. Kenison was born in Jefferson on March 21, 1914, the daughter of John and Edith (Persons) Rogers. She was a 1931 graduate of Jefferson High School.
Phyllis was a lifetime resident of Jefferson where she raised her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. In the early 1960's her young mothering duties were over and she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. She attended nursing school at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and became an LPN. She worked at Weeks Memorial Hospital for a time and was also a private duty nurse for Sinclair Weeks and his wife. She was a creative person who enjoyed knitting, hooking rugs, quilting and painting.
Family members include three sons, Dr. John Burton Kenison of Milford, NH, Edward A. Kenison and Roger A. Kenison both of Jefferson; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband Albert Burton Kenison died in 1970. She is predeceased by three brothers, John, Woodbury, and Woodrow Rogers and two sisters, Lucy Tucker and Philida Silver.
A graveside service was held Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 12:00 PM in the Forest Vale Cemetery, Jefferson. Rev. Dean A. Stiles, pastor, of the Jefferson Christian Church will officiate.
