LANCASTER, NH - R. Floyd Luckey Jr., 85, passed away after after a long illness at his home in Lancaster on November 5, 2015.  He was born on November 18, 1929 in LaBelle, Florida the son of the late R. Floyd Luckey Sr. and Florrie Myrle (Kennington) Luckey.

Immediate family members include his daughter Sarah Patricia "Patty" Rohman of Florida; grandson Kyle Rohman of New Orleans, LA; step-son William Palya and his wife Alicia Palya of Twin Mountain, NH and their children Lindsay Palya of Twin Mountain, NH, and Grace Palya of Heath, OH; a nephew Irvan Luckey and his wife Kathy of Pittsburg, NH.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of 35 years Barbara A. (Holden) Luckey; a son Robert "Bobby" Luckey III of Florida and his three brothers Oscar, James and William Luckey.

Floyd was a 1948 graduate of LaBelle High School in LaBelle, FL.  He attended the University of Florida graduating in 1951 with high honors and a degree in Agricultural Education.  In 1953 he earned a Masters Degree in Agriculture Economics and Cooperative Dairy Marketing.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy attaining the rank of a commanding officer.  He served aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin and the Submarine USS Burrfish.  He was honorably discharged after 3 years and 4 months of distinguished service.

After leaving the Navy he served for 5 years as manager of the Independent Dairy Farm Cooperative in South Florida.  Mr. Luckey worked closely with the dairy farmers enabling the Cooperative to become a thriving business.

His hard work and dedication to the project did not go unnoticed.  As the family of (now retired) US Senator Bob Graham began development of what was previously their dairy farm they enlisted the assistance of Mr. Luckey to develop 3000 acres of land into what has become the vibrant and beautiful town of Miami Lakes.  Dedicating 15 years to the Miami Lakes projects Floyd then retired and relocated to Bonita Springs, FL.

Over the next 30 years Mr. Luckey was active in the southwest Florida areas of real estate and condominium development.  He was instrumental in the creation of Black Island and the quaint taste of simple vacation life at Bonita Beach Plantation Resort ("Crackerville").  Ultimately Black Island and Lovers Key were combined to be the Lovers Key Carl E. Johnson State Park.  Floyd and his wife operated the Bonita Beach Plantation Resort for the next 15 years.

In 2005 he and his beloved Barbara retired to New Hampshire.  He was devoted to her and their interest throughout their 35 years of blissful marriage.  She passed in 2013 leaving a hole in his life and heart for the rest of his days.  He loved to tell her "You've been my sweetheart for a long time".  Her response was always, "Not nearly long enough".

Floyd was truly a gentle, kind and loving soul who touched many who met and worked with throughout his life.  Those who are left behind are enriched by his spirit and grateful for his genial manner, generosity and kind ways.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday evening November 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 210 Main Street, Lancaster, NH.  A funeral service will be held Monday morning, November 9, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will follow in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
