Ray was born in Dover, NH on July 1, 1935. A son of Frederick and Grace (Pierce) Conway he grew up in Barrington. He received an Associate's degree in Animal Science from the Thompson School at the University of New Hampshire in 1955.
Ray married Carolyn Lowe on October 22, 1955. They enjoyed 59 ½ years together until her passing in 2015. They established Yawnoc Farm in Jefferson on May 15, 1958; together they worked the farm while also raising six children.
Ray was predeceased by all his siblings; Ralph Conway, Mary Dodge, Phillip Conway, Claire Vaughn, and Ruth Gambardello. He is survived by his six children and their families. Kevin and Joan of Jefferson; Kathy and Tom of Barnstead, David and Cathy of Jefferson, Lynne and Brian of Jefferson, Joanna and Eric of Bow and Barbara and Mathew of Fort Myers, FL. His grandchildren Seth and Erin of Windham, Ashley and Spencer of Peoria AZ, Ross and Kate of Jefferson, Maria and Max of Newmarket, Kyle and Amanda of Jefferson, Anthony and Emily of Centerville OH, Olivia of Ashland, Norah of Bow, Charlie of Bow, Melissa of Normal, IL, Joel and Kelly of Rising Sun MD. His great grandchildren Kase and Callum of Jefferson, Cooper of Peoria and Corbin and Mason of Rising Sun MD.
A lifelong farmer, Ray farmed side by side with Carolyn until her passing. Ray served as a selectman in Jefferson for 30 years and also served on various local and regional agricultural committees.
Farming was part of his core. He loved working the land, animals, Brown Swiss, his family, and at the heart of it all, the mutual love and devotion between he and Carolyn. These things kept him motivated as he journeyed through life.
At the age of 86 Ray came full circle as he passed away on April 1, 2022 (no fooling) at his beloved Yawnoc Farm, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.
A memorial service will be held Monday April 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Highland Chapel, St John's Methodist Church, 5 Black Velvet Road in Jefferson.
Committal will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
