Raymond Robert Hodge

February 22, 1921 — April 20, 2006

GUILDHALL, VT- Raymond Robert Hodge, 85, died early Thursday morning, April 20, 2006 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Hodge was born in Guildhall, Vermont on February 22, 1921, the son of John and Winifred (Daniels) Hodge.

Raymond was educated at the Guildhall Village School and was a graduate of Groveton High School. He also attended Saint Johnsbury Vocational School. His employment included working for Fred W. Peaslee, in Guildhall, Wyoming Valley Paper, in Northumberland, Beechers Equipment, in Lancaster and Robert Wentworth, carpentry. He retired from James River Corporation, Groveton in 1986.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with the 767th Military Police Battalion during WWII.

Ray enjoyed gathering with friends and family, hunting, fishing and playing cards. He was a 17-year member of the American Legion Post # 17, Groveton, a 60-year member of the Benton Lodge # 88 F & AM, Guildhall. He was also a former member of Wilena Benton Chapter Eastern Star, an avid member of NRA and was a member of the Guildhall Community Church.

He was an active member of the Guildhall Old Home Day activities and the Community Chest; he served his local government as cemetery commissioner and water commissioner.

Family members include his wife of 58 years Edith "Winnie" Rowell Hodge of Guildhall, 3 children; Sharon Bissonnette and her husband Clement of Winooski, VT, Jeffrey Hodge of Guildhall, and Sharon Bacon and her husband Dennis also of Guildhall; a sister Marion Klinefelter and her husband John of Guildhall; two granddaughters; Manessa Rae of Londonderry, Martha Rose of Tahlequa, OK; a grandson Mitchell Bissonnette of Winooski, VT; a great-granddaughter Molly Elizabeth of Londonderry; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John Harold, Stuart Ida, Carlos Shepard, and an infant brother; sisters Gertrude Keysar, Florence Polkay, and Grace Grondin.

A visiting hour will be held Saturday April 22, from 1-2 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Masonic service will held at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at the Guildhall, in Guildhall, VT.
