LANCASTER - Raymond A. Jackson, 86, formerly of Burnside Street, died Tuesday evening, May 3, 2011, at Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Jackson was born in Groveton, NH, on March 11, 1925, the son of Edwin H. and Edith L. (Sheltry) Jackson.
Raymond grew up in Groveton graduating from Groveton High School in 1943. During World War II he served with the US Navy and was honorably discharged as an FIC in 1946. He returned to Groveton and went to work at Groveton Paper Company retiring there when owned by James River Corp. He was the supervisor of the electric department there for 46 ½ years.
He was an avid fly fisherman and he enjoyed dancing and woodworking.
His wife of 56 years, Justine Claire (Gessner) Jackson and a sister Geneva Jackson Kondrat, predeceased him. Surviving family members include 8 nieces and 2 nephews living in other states. A third nephew predeceased him.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday evening May 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Monday morning at 10:00 at the funeral home. Reverend Ron Bruce, pastor of the Christ United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Summer Street Cemetery
