WHITEFIELD – Richard Gordon Beattie passed away peacefully at his home in Whitefield, NH with his wife at his side and best friend “Tippy” by his feet.
Richard was born in York, Maine to Bernice (Smead) and Russell Beattie.
After eloping with his wife in 1965, they had a wonderful life owning various businesses. The famous “The Cookstove Restaurant” in Ogunquit, Maine, the “Colonial Inn” in Gorham, NH, the “Hilltop Marketplace Gift Shop” in Whitefield, NH, as well as various cooking, home remodeling, and woodworking endeavors.
He is survived by his wife Elsie of 58 years, his favorite truck riding companion “Tippy”; his sons David Beattie (wife Raven), Russell Beattie (Ana) and grandson Alex Beattie all of California; a brother Ken Beattie of Tallahassee, FL; a sister-in-law Dottie Ruiz of Littleton, MA; best friends, Fred Bruce of Quincy, MA, Jimmey Howland of Groveton, NH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his parents; brother Stanley; sisters Patricia Claremont, Elizabeth Gaylord; beloved mother-in-law Theresa (Miller) Wormwood; and sister-in-law Barbara Kohl.
Following his wishes, Richard’s ashes will be scattered at the Nubble Lighthouse Rock in York, Maine in the Spring. There will be no services.
