Richard Alwin Steudle

JEFFERSON - Richard Alwin Steudle, 76, of Button Road, died Friday morning September, 11, 2009, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.

Mr. Steudle was born in Warren, Michigan, on April 16, 1933, the son of Martin and Selma (Miller ) Steudle.

He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan, Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan, where he earned his bachelors degree, and the University of Michigan earning his masters degree in School Administration.

Richard's entire career was devoted to education, he started as a teacher and later high school principle in Clinton, Michigan. He was also the Superintendent of Schools in Capac, Michigan, Charity Hill, Michigan, and Muskegon, Michigan. He received several awards during his Michigan career and was a past president of the Michigan Association of School Administrators and a 35 year Rotarian President of the United Way in Muskegon, Michigan.

After moving to New Hampshire he was Superintendent of Schools in Berlin for ten years and was interim superintendent of schools for the Northwoods District, Gorham and White Mountain Regional High School.

For a time he owned and operated the Little House B&B in Jefferson. He was a past Board Member and Vice President of the Board for Weeks Medical Center. Richard loved boating on Lake Michigan and Lake St. Clair, Michigan.

Family members include his wife Mary (Oleson) Steudle of Jefferson; seven children, Sue Steudle of Owosso, Michigan, Master Chief James Steudle and his wife Mary of Cape May, NJ, Lee Dawson and her husband Scott of Keller, Texas, Kristie Westendorf and her husband Karl of Boyde, Texas, Jennifer Green and her husband Benjamin of St. Paul, Minnesota, Anne Langlois and her husband Craig of Gorham, Joshua Poisson and his wife Heather of Berlin; seventeen grandchildren, Cory, Clay, Kelly, Savannah, Ridge, Will, Caroline, Jack, Anne, Grace, Finbarr, Julia, Gabriel, Isaac, Ella, Owen J., Owen C.; his first wife Shirley Steudle, two brothers, Martin Steudle and his wife Peggy of  Oxford, Michigan, David Steudle of Warren, Michigan; and three sisters, Helen Decker of Pigeon, Michigan Alene Klosky of Roseville, Michigan, and Sharon Curd and her husband Harvey of Warren, Michigan and a sister-in-law Jean Steudle of Adrian, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents; and three siblings, Herbert Steudle, Elsie Prichard and Louise Hinks.

At Richards request there are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held Thursday morning, September 17, at 11:00, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7

Street, Berlin. Rev. Raymond Mitchell, pastor will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Starr King Cemetery, Jefferson.
