GILMAN, VT- Richard E. Wood, 79, of Commercial Ave., died January 8, 2006, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Wood was born in Gilman, VT, on January 15, 1926, the son of Reuben and Flora (Savoie) Wood.
Richard was a lifetime resident of Gilman. During WWII he served with the US Army, after returning home he married his wife Irene Tuttle in 1948. At that time he began working at the Gilman Paper Company where he retired after 46 years of employment. He also worked in the building construction trade and logging.
He was a member of the Gilman Methodist Church.
Family members include his wife Irene of Gilman; two daughters, Nancy Nye and her husband Alan of Essex, VT, and Barbara Hartshorn and her husband Bruce of Lancaster; two brothers, Robert B. Wood of Saint Johnsbury, VT, and Delwin R. Wood of Lunenburg, VT; four grandchildren, Benjamin Nye, Melinda Nye, Nicholas Hartshorn, Abigail Hoppe and her husband David, Elizabeth Nye and great-granddaughter Anna Hoppe.
There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held Wednesday morning January 11, at 11:00 AM, at the Gilman Methodist Church, Gilman. Reverend Henry Cheney, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, S.Lunenburg,VT.
