Robert Gordon Farmer

July 22, 1930 — June 23, 2024

Robert Gordon Farmer was born on July 22, 1930 in Queens, NY, to Cecil G. Farmer and Mabel J. (Reichert) Farmer. As an only child, Robert spent his early years fishing, riding bikes and enjoyed many adventures with a group of boys from his neighborhood. From the ages of 12 to 18, he delivered newspapers, worked in the dairy department at a local market, a drugstore, and also worked summers for the American Company. After high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as an electrician aboard the USS Boxer from 1948-1952. Robert then worked as an electrician until he joined the Nassau County Police Department in 1955.

In 1954, Robert married Doris Louise Nussberger, and together they raised three sons. In 1975, Robert retired from the police force and moved his family from New York to Lunenburg, VT. After building the family home with the help of his sons, Robert worked part time until he fully retired in 1988.

In 1980, Robert married Patricia B. Garfield (Burrington) and inherited 7 daughters! He considered all of “the girls” as his own. In 1988, Robert and Patricia started spending their winters in Florida until moving there full time in 1994. They lived in various places on the east coast from Stuart to Vero Beach. In 2017, Robert and Patricia moved back north to be closer to family.

Robert is survived by his three sons, William R. Farmer (Ruth) of Ladson, SC, Robert J. Farmer (Lise) of Atlanta, GA, Steven P. Farmer of Kennesaw, GA, his stepdaughters, Marilyn Lovell (Brian) of Hillsborough, NH, Nancy Davidowicz (Ronald) of Berlin, NH, Lauri Cincotta (Kevin) of Biddeford, ME, Sylvia Pettingill (Peter) of Barrington, NH, Donna Shamberger (Harry) of Thornton, NH, Dana Weekes of Bethlehem, NH., and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Robert was predeceased by his parents Cecil G. and Mabel J. Farmer, his wife Doris L. Farmer, his daughter-in-law Connie Farmer, his wife Patricia B. Farmer, his stepdaughter Gayle E. Fong and his son-in-law Bradford N. Weekes.
Robert will be remembered for his love of service to his country and also his love for his family. He was a patriot through and through. He spoke often of his Navy and police careers – he proudly carried his “shield” and wore his USS Boxer hat. He loved to read about history (non-fiction) and loved to watch baseball and football. Most importantly, “Pop”, “Bob”, “Dad” was kind, loyal, honest and genuine, and was always willing to just listen and offer sound advice!

Robert will be laid to rest in Lancaster, NH at the Summer Street cemetery with his wife Doris.
