Robert Bruce Tobin Sr.

LANCASTER- Robert B. Tobin Sr., 67, of Main Street died Friday June 8, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Tobin was born in Jamaica Queens, New York on July 21, 1939, the son of Ernest A. and Nelly (Barnes) Tobin.

Robert was a graduate of Mannes School of Music in New York City and was an active musician all of his life. He moved to Groveton with his family in 1968 to work as the music director of Groveton High School, where he taught for 26 years. He was the founder and director of the North Country Community Band. He continued to be involved in music, brass groups, recorder groups and various music ensembles all of his life. Among many musicians he was respected and admired for his musicianship. His influence as a teacher and musician changed countless lives and filled our communities with music all year round.

In 1982 he opened Tobin's Bicycle Repair Shop in Groveton and in 1986 he moved his shop to Lancaster where he resided with his wife and three sons. In 1989 he bicycled across the United States crossing the northern route from Seattle, WA to Portsmouth, NH.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed biking, fishing, kayaking, cross country skiing, Scottish Country Dancing, and hiking.

Family members include his wife of 42 years, Gerardine B. Tobin, his three sons, Robert Tobin Jr. of Lunenburg, VT; William Tobin and his wife Laura, and their son Liam of St. Johnsbury, VT and Andrew Tobin and his wife Molly and their two children, Chloe and Kieran of Lancaster. One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening June 12, from 6-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A memorial service will be held on Thursday evening, June 14, at 6:00 PM at the Tobin residence on Main Street, Lancaster.
