Ruth Shores Noble

September 3, 1918 — May 14, 2009

GRANBY - Ruth Shores Noble, 90, of Granby passed away at Weeks Medical Center, Thursday, May 14, 2009.

Ruth was born in Granby on September 3, 1918, the daughter of Ceylon and Sallie (Hodgdon) Shores. She married Clyde A. Noble on August 8, 1940.

Ruth put in many hours of community service. She served as 4-H Leader, Trustee, Clerk and Treasurer of the Granby-Victory Congregational Church, school janitor, Librarian, Assistant Town clerk and as Postmaster for 19 years. She also drove the Granby School Bus to Concord for many years. The children have fond memories of stopping to watch moose, deer, ducks and other animals as they traveled through the Victory Bog. She took special pride in being the Town Historian.

She loved "her" birds and wildlife. She fed "her flock" of turkeys daily. At age 87 she was still using her chainsaw and weedwacker. She especially loved to tend her flower garden. Hardly a day went by when she didn't have guests dropping in to visit. They could not leave until they had a cup of coffee and something for dessert. Her family was her greatest love. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. All of them have fond memories of the grandmother.

Ruth is survived by her six children, Rodney Noble and his wife Kathy of Lunenburg, Connie Quimby and husband Bruce of Concord, Paula Christopher of Guilford, NH, Claudette Morehouse and friend David Begor of Concord, John Noble of Granby and Calvin Noble and wife Nellie of Granby. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Also she is survived by one brother Guy and wife Kay; two sisters, Beverly Shores of Granby and Edith Willson of N. Concord; sisters-in-law Muriel Pelletier of North Concord, Ellen Noble of Windsor and Mabel Noble of Valparaiso, Indiana; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Clyde, her parents, Ceylon and Sallie Shores, Two sisters Leah Austin and Sandra Morehouse.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 19, at 1:30 PM at the Granby-Victory Congregational Church. Burial will follow at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the Granby Congregational Church Restoration Fund in care of Nellie Noble, PO Box 126, Granby, VT 05840.
