LANCASTER - Sally White Carter, 84, of Stebbins Hill Road, died Sunday March 30, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.

Mrs. Carter was born in Lancaster on September 5, 1929 the daughter of Almon D. and Esther (Rines) White.  Raised on the Wedare Farm on Stebbins Hill, her present home, she was a horsewoman who learned to raise and show morgan horses at an early age.

For almost her entire life she lived in Lancaster.  She graduated from Lancaster Academy and attended Keene State College.  On September 29, 1951 she married George Francis Carter.  They resided in Boston for a time where she was employed at Jordan Marsh.  They returned to Lancaster and in the early 70's she acquired a realtors license.  She was employed with various realtors until she and George founded Carter Associates Realtors operating from 1976 to 1998.  She was very successful in her career and was once voted as Realtor of the Year for the North Country Board.

Along with George her love for Morgan horses continued throughout her life.  From the 1940's to the late 70's she raised and showed morgans.  In 1963 they sold a morgan named Windcrest Musicman which was one of the highest priced morgans in its day.  They regularly won awards for their accomplishments and Sally was a founder of the White Mountain Riding Club.

Family members include her husband George F. Carter of Lancaster; a son George C. "Kit" Carter of Lancaster; a granddaughter Catherine Carter of Lancaster and a grandson George Christopher Carter of New York City.
