LANCASTER- Samuel F. Evans, 62, of Grove Street, died Monday morning November 2, 2009, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Evans was born in Lancaster, NH on December 5, 1946, a son of Roger and Etta L. (Ramsdell) Evans.
Sam was a lifelong resident of Lancaster and was a graduate of Lancaster Academy. For a time he worked for Seawood Construction, Marro Tree and was also employed by Wausau Paper Company, retiring after 32 years.
For the past 42 years he has been an active member of the Lancaster Fire Dept. and was the Chief from 1987 until 1995. He was at one time a part time Lancaster Police Officer and worked for Inland Divers inspecting fire extinguishers. He was still called "Chief" and "Dad" by all of the fire dept. members. In 2003 Engine 2 was dedicated to him.
He enjoyed golfing, NASCAR racing and football and loved going to all of the games around New England. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, gardening, traveling, the outdoors and going out to eat and picking on the ladies.
Family members include his wife of 42 years Donna (Cole) Evans of Lancaster, his daughter Heather Evans of Lancaster, two grandchildren, McKenna Evans and Ady Jane Evans, three sisters, Priscilla Truchon, Sylvia Aldrich and Mary Jane Falkenham all of Lancaster. He was predeceased by his son Keith Evans on August 11, 2009 and his brother Franklin "Bum" Evans.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening November 6, from 6 to 9 PM at the Lancaster Fire Dept. A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at the Christ United Methodist Church in Lancaster. Reverend Ron Bruce, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be private.
