Samuel L. Noyes

October 18, 1931 — December 5, 2019

COLEBROOK - Samuel L. Noyes, 88, of Edwards Street, died at home of a sudden illness, Thursday afternoon, December 5, 2019.

Sam was born in Gorham, NH, on October 18, 1931, the son of Earl W. and Amanda (Blake) Noyes. He was raised in Berlin and attended schools there until his parents purchased the family farm in Jefferson and went on to graduate from Lancaster Academy. During his high school years he worked one summer at the Tip Top House on Mount Washington and after graduation served for a time in the US Air Force. On June 30, 1965 he married Audrey Wiswell of Colebrook. They made Colebrook their home for many years.

Sam worked many different jobs during his lifetime, including his own trash business, but the work he loved most was lumberjacking. He enjoyed being in the woods and working with nature. Sam and Audrey also ran an antique shop for many years in "the barn" on Edwards St. and through this enterprise became friends with many people in the North Country and places beyond. For over fifteen years, they spent most Sundays with Donald and Jean Haynes touring the back roads of the North Country, preferably in a convertible, and were also frequent diners at Jennifer's Restaurant in Island Pond, VT. Sam always kept an eye out for local wildlife.

Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf in his younger years. He also followed NFL and College football and was a fan of the New England Patriots. Sam loved food and had a belief in "the bigger the better". The bigger something was, the better he liked it!

Surviving family members include his son Robert Alan Noyes of Colebrook, daughter, Deborah Jean Noyes of Columbia. Grandchildren; Nina and husband Juliano Pereira, Eben Noyes and wife Jennifer Noyes; great-grandchildren Camden and Carli Noyes; a sister Marie Noyes of Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1962 by his first wife Hilda E. (Whitney) Noyes; by Audrey in 2013; his brother Donald Noyes in June; and two half brothers Bob Noyes and John Noyes.

A graveside committal service will be held in the spring in Colebrook Village Cemetery on Saturday June 20th at 1:00PM. Reverend Timothy Brooks will officiate.
