Selenia C. Gathings, 102 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of December 21, 2025.
Her life was as varied as it was long. Born in Puerto Rico, she moved to New York as a toddler and grew up from there. She would meet her future husband, a pediatrician from Chile who was doing advanced work at Duke University and returned to Chile with her, where she lived for the next ten years of her life. After widowhood, she returned to the United States where she settled in Florida and lived there for decades until recently moving to New Hampshire to be with her daughter.
For many years, she worked for Pan American Airlines as an executive secretary and pursued her love of travel - going to all parts of the world, from the Caribbean, to South America, Europe and the Orient. She also enjoyed activities such as playing bridge, and tennis, which she did into her eighties. She had a lifelong love of dancing, and joined groups for dancing events. She had a great spirit and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Mrs. Gathings remarried and was widowed two more times. She has a daughter, Sandra S. Bergquist, of Lancaster, and her children, Heather Borlase and her husband Alan Bayer, and their two children who live in San Francisco; and a son Roger Borlase and his wife Nancy Prechtl and their daughter who lives in the Boston area. In addition, there are stepchildren from her former marriages.
There will be a celebration of life which will be set at a future date.
