Sr. Jennifer J. Nadeau

Jennifer Joan Nadeau, Sister Jennifer of Jesus, Order of Discalced Carmelites, passed away on October 19, 2017 at St. Vincent De Paul Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Berlin, New Hampshire. Sister Jennifer was born on June 26, 1956 to John E. Nadeau and Marceline A. Nadeau in Lancaster, NH. She attended Lancaster Elementary and White Mountain Regional High School, from which she graduated as Valedictorian in 1974. In 1978 she graduated from Bates College in Lewiston ME with a B.A. in English Literature. Before discerning her vocation as a Carmelite Religious, Jen first worked in the publishing field at The Courier Press in Littleton NH and Little, Brown and Company in Boston MA. She later worked in the computer software industry for the Lotus Development Corporation in Boston MA.

Sister Jennifer made her First Profession as a Discalced Carmelite on October 15, 1996 and her Solemn Profession on October 16, 1999. On May 13, 2005 Sister Jennifer received permission from Sean Patrick O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston, now Cardinal O'Malley, to live her religious vocation as a hermit. In the years that followed Sister Jennifer followed the teachings of Saint Theresa of Avila as she lived out her calling in New England and elsewhere.

Jen leaves behind her father and mother, John E. Nadeau and Marceline A. Nadeau (nee Mayo); her seven siblings and their spouses: Marcia and Aquila Chase of Newmarket NH; Monica and Craig Williams of Glen Allen VA; John J. and Elizabeth Nadeau of Bradford VT; Gregory and Rebecca Nadeau of North Stratford NH; Rosemary and Ronald Rancourt of Lancaster NH; Nathan and Julie Nadeau of Waterford VT; and Andrew and Jeanne Nadeau of Lancaster. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and benefactors.

In her life on earth, Sister Jennifer of Jesus embodied the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity and the precepts of the Carmelite Order in all the activities of daily living. She faced the cancer that ended her earthly life courageously and peacefully with "complete confidence in the goodness of God".

Sister Jennifer's calling hours will be at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster NH from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, October 24. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Matt Mason at All Saints Church in Lancaster NH on Wednesday, October 25 at 11 AM.
