Stephen E. Hodge Sr.

GROVETON - Stephen E. Hodge Sr., 62, of 11 Brooklyn Street, passed away Friday evening, July 6, 2018 in the comfort of his own home.

Steve was born in Lancaster on February 4, 1956, the son of Charles E. Hodge Jr. and Faye F. (Emerson) Hodge. He grew up in Lancaster where he attended White Mountain Regional High School until enlisting in the US Marine Corps at age 17. He served active duty until 1976 and in the reserves for an additional 3 years. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant.

He returned to Lancaster where he raised his own children until moving to Groveton where he remained the rest of his life. After his military service he drove tractor trailer many years for various companies, the last was for NAPA Auto Parts. During his truck driving years Steve made many friends who had the pleasure of hearing stories of his childhood and truck driving experiences. Especially hauling logs out of Carl Brook. His kids also enjoyed his storytelling. He loved being with family and he liked to make people laugh. You could always count on him for a good joke.

Steve had many other interests including hunting, fishing, woodworking, four wheeling, motorcycles, and talking on his CB radio where he was know by his handle "Yogi Bear". He was a lifetime member of the VFW and for a time he served as the Sexton of Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.

Surviving family members include his wife Stacey (Glidden) Hodge of Groveton; his four children, Bobbi-Jo Hodge and fiancé Eric Gagne of Guilford, NH, of Stephen E. Hodge Jr. and fiancée Tracy Davis of Derry, NH, Charlie Hodge of Bethel, ME and Martha F.F. Hodge of Groveton; six grandchildren; two sisters, Cathy Bishop of Lancaster, Dottie Hodgdon of Guildhall; and many nieces and nephews. Steve adopted every child that came through the doors of his house. He was predeceased by his parents and four sisters, Charlene Ruth, Virginia Wallace, Mary Kenison and Sally Morris.

Visiting hours will be held Friday evening, July 13, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Saturday morning, July 14th at 11:00 AM at the Lancaster Assembly of God Church. Reverend Seth Frink, pastor, will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held at a later date in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
