She went to finishing school in England after completing her secondary education and then worked in her father's business before emigrating to the United States around 1965. She worked for a short time in Manhattan in the business world. On October 7, 1966, she married Dr. Roy Swenson and relocated to Bergenfield, New Jersey. Susi was also trained in Myofunctional Therapy and opened up her own private practice in their home. She also translated into German the textbooks written for the Institute in Myofunctional Therapy (Coral Gables, Florida) with several trips there. In 2000, Susi and her husband moved to Whitefield, New Hampshire to enjoy the clean air and countryside. Susi was well known as the Lip Lady with an extensive collection of lip items. Susi brought her 20 year younger sister, Katrin, to the United States when Katrin was a child and along with Dr. Swenson, legally adopted her as their daughter later on, due to her developmental disability. Susi became a widow on April 24, 2010 but decided to remain in Whitefield for the remainder on her life. She was active at the Whitefield theater, where she ushered, the regional board for the developmentally disabled, attended conferences on Autism, and also helped with activities at the local Baptist Church. Her pound cakes became famous among friends.
Susi is preceded in death by her parents, a sister and brother in Germany, and her late Husband, and step-daughter, Karen Brandel.
