Ted A. Smith

March 27, 1968 — December 22, 2008

LUNENBURG - Theodore "Ted" Alexander Smith Jr., 40, died suddenly at his home on West Main Street on Monday December 22, 2008.

Ted was born March 27, 1968 in Hartford, Connecticut.  He was raised in East Hartford and attended East Hartford High where he excelled in track and football.  He graduated in 1988.  Upon graduation, he earned a certificate in electrical repair and was employed by Hamilton Sundstrand, an aerospace firm in East Windsor, Connecticut.  He then attended the university of Hartford, where he studied interior design.

After earning a degree from the Connecticut Culinary Institute, he found his true passion in cooking.  He worked as a chef at Max Downtown in Hartford, CT, and Max Amore in Glastonbury, Connecticut.

In 1996 he married Kristi Samson, originally of West Stewartstown, New Hampshire.  They resided in East Hartford, Connecticut where their two children, Maddy and Spencer, were born.  Ted was devoted to his family and loved to play with his children, watch them grow and romp with their two dogs.  He also loved to camp with his family, fish, golf, ski, run and watch sports.  He was a loyal New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan.

After moving to the North Country in 2003, he made his culinary debut when he helped to open the New England Cattle Company & Steakhouse and served as its executive chef.  He later worked as the AM Sous chef at the Mountain View Grand in Whitefield, New Hampshire.  At the time of his death he was employed as the AM Sous Chef at the Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.

While in the North Country Ted enjoyed meeting new people and truly appreciated the beauty of the region.  Ted enjoyed watching his children grow in school and participate in sports.  In addition to his family life Ted's great passion was cooking.  He cooked professionally but he also loved to cook for family and friends.  No occasion was to small to celebrate and Ted cooked in grand fashion.

He leaves behind his wife Kristi and two children Maddy and Spencer of Lunenburg; his parents Theodore and Minerva Smith of East Hartford, CT; a brother, Rick of Schenectady, NY; a sister Jessica of New York, NY; his father and mother-in-law Richard and Linda Samson of West Stewartstown; aunts, uncles, brother and sister-in-laws and his nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday December 27, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.  A service of remembrance will follow immediately after at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

The family has requested donations in lieu of flowers to the Ted Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund at Connecticut River Bank, Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584.  At the request of Maddy and Spencer the scholarship fund will benefit students who would like to pursue a career in culinary arts and that share the passion for cooking that their father had.
