Velma Rich Cummings

WHITEFIELD - Mrs. Velma Rich Cummings, 86, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday afternoon, May 1, 2008 at the Morrison Nursing Home.

Mrs. Cummings was born in Lancaster, NH, on February 21, 1922, the daughter of Earl A. and Lula (Prouty) Rich of Lancaster.

She married Edmund A. Cummings on November 17, 1947.  Most of her life she resided in Lancaster before moving to Whitefield to live at the Highland House.  There she enjoyed visiting and volunteering her time with friends at the Highland House and the Morrison Nursing Home.  She was a graduate of Lancaster Academy.

At one time she worked as a Switchboard Operator for the telephone company in Lancaster and for 25 years she was employed with the housekeeping department at Weeks Memorial Hospital.

Velma loved taking pictures of everything, her camera went everywhere with her.  She enjoyed making scrapbooks out of all the pictures and clippings for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the Morrison Nursing Home.  She was an avid watcher and follower of the Boston Red Sox and was very excited about their winnings.

She leaves behind her loving family, a daughter June C. Cormier and husband Paul of Whitefield; as son George Cummings and wife Mary Jane of N. Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren Karen C. Harrington, her husband Randy, great-grandchildren Grady and Abby of Bethel, ME; Pamela C. Couture and her husband David of Jefferson; Christopher Cummings and wife Tonya; great-grandchildren, Logan, Leah and McKabe of Albertville, AL; Michael Cummings and wife Stephanie, great-granddaughter Jillian of Whitefield.

A loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother will be greatly missed.

A visiting hour will be held Monday morning May 5, at 10:00 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at All Saints Church, Lancaster.  Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will follow in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.  A light lunch at All Saints Parish Hall will follow the committal service at the cemetery.
