Velmore O. Forrest

LUNENBURG - Velmore O. Forrest, 82, of S. Lunenburg Road, died Thursday morning August 10, 2006, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.

Mr. Forrest was born in Laconia, NH, on April 23, 1924. Raised in Lunenburg he attended schools there and was a graduate of Littleton High School. During WWII he served with the US Army and made the D Day landing in Belgium. After the war he resided in Woodstock, NH, and various other places before returning to Lunenburg.

For 29 years he served a Lunenburg's Postmaster and he was also a former Lunenburg Selectman.

He was a Communicant of St. Leo's Church in Lunenburg. Memberships include John W. Weeks Post #3041, Lancaster, the Elks, and the National Association of Postmasters, of which he served one year as president.

Velmore was a devoted family man. He also enjoyed the company of his many friends and was an avid hunter and Yankees fan. He enjoyed 24 years of retirement.

Family members include his wife of 41 years, Joyce A. Forrest of Lunenburg; three daughters, Aprel A. Woods and her companion Peter Buffington of Lunenburg; Katherine Couture and husband Donald of Berlin, Linda Glass and companion William Moore of California; seven grandchildren, Rick Santaw, Kathy Hartshorn, Cher Woods, Kellie Churchill, Keith Hartshorn, Katrina Hartshorn, Connie Hartlen; thirteen grandchildren; a sister-in-law Joyce Forrest of St. Johnsbury; and several nieces. He was predeceased by a daughter Judy Bronson.

At Velmore's request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning August 12, at 10:00 AM at St. Leo's Church, Lunenburg. Rev. Patrick Forman, pastor of St. John

the Evangelist Church, St. Johnsbury, VT, will officiate. Military honors will follow immediately after the service on the church property.
