Mrs. White was born March 19, 1913 in Boston, MA, the only child of Frederick and Charlotte (Horan) Tucker.  Her family moved back to Jefferson/Lancaster area when she was three years old.

She is a descendant of Benjamin Hicks, one of the early settlers of Jefferson, and of Emmons Stockwell, an early settler of Lancaster.  Because she was the 6

She graduated from Lancaster Academy in 1931 and then attended nurses training at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, NH, where she became a LPN. For several years she worked at the Blythewood Hospital in New Jersey as a night supervisor.

On October 8, 1940 she married her high school sweetheart Roland H. White. Early in the marriage they lived in Buffalo, NY, where Roland supported the war effort by helping build fighter airplanes. At the conclusion of the war they returned to Lancaster.  Roland was employed by Geo M. Stevens Insurance Company and later became a partner in the business.

Virginia was active in her church and her children's activities. She was a member of the All Saints Tabernacle Society and a member of the Lancaster Unity Club and DAR.  She was a Girl Scout Leader and neighborhood chairman for the Girl Scouts.  Many of her scouts will remember fondly her camping trips to the family cottage in Scarborough, Maine.

Her family was most important to her.  She enjoyed sharing family events especially Christmas.  Her grandchildren have been a great blessing to her and her constant joy.  She loved being active and in later years enjoyed oil painting and crossword puzzles and watching the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Roland; infant daughter, Patricia Lynn; and a son, Terrence.

Surviving family members include two daughters, Joan Carrier and her husband Edward of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Sharon Chamberlain and her husband Gary of Danville, VT; a daughter-in-law, Darlene White of Groveton; 7 grandchildren, Karen Degreenia, Lawrence White, Kristen Letourneau, Jeffrey Chamberlain, Kathleen Shastany, Heidi Carrier, James Carrier; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and step-grandchildren, Scott Alley, Melissa Simonelli, Stephen Alley.
