William (Bill/Bucky) King Bucklin Sr, 76, of Lunenburg, Vermont, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 13, 2013. Bill fought a long and courageous battle with Mesothelioma (asbestos cancer) and passed away at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on July 23, 1936, in Rutland, Vermont, Bill was the oldest son of Nathaniel and Evelyn (King) Bucklin. Married on October 14, 1972, Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Marian Ellen LaValley-Bucklin of Lunenburg, Vermont.
Bill is survived by his oldest son William K. Bucklin Jr. of Merrimack, NH; 2 daughters, Laurie A. Comings of Lancaster, NH and Karen L. White of Stuttgart, Germany, step-son Howard (Marsh) Johnson of New York; Brother, Robert Bucklin and wife Carla Bucklin of Plainfield, NH; 2 sisters, Linda Kenison of Concord, NH and Nancy Bucklin-Malaney of Lewiston, MT; 9 Grandchildren Abigail Bucklin, Hillary Bucklin, Aaron W Comings, Alicia M Coming, Katrina N White, Raymond R White, Stephanie Johnson, Howard M. Johnson Jr., Helen M Johnson, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by step-son Bert Johnson of Lunenburg, VT.
Bill, a true Vermonter through and through, enjoyed a variety of hobbies and passions from snow machines to automobiles. Known to his dear friends at Sherman Motors as "Buckshot," Bill never met an automobile (or a good deal) he did not like! He loved antique cars and trucks; he had an extensive knowledge of all things with motors and wheels! Bill was a lifetime member of the Lancaster Snow Drifters Association. As a world class snowmobile racer, Bill was the first winner of the coveted Kilkenny Cup in 1966. As an active member of his church, Union Baptist in Waterford, VT, Bill took three volunteer missionary trips to Victory Bible Camp in Sutton Alaska. Bill loved to travel, spending time in Florida, Germany, Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii. Bill was an avid hunter and woodsman...competing and winning several chainsaw racing contests. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Lancaster and Lunenburg fire departments. A Veteran of the U.S. Army and trained in topography and photolithography, Bill was a member of the American Legion in Groveton, NH. "Bucky" loved reminiscing with his family and friends, and his frequent walks down memory lane brought many a smile and a laugh.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center for their loving care and support. Further, thank you to Caledonia Home Health and Hospice for their special care.
Calling hours will be held at Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster, NH on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Lancaster Assembly of God Church, 637 Main Street, Lancaster, NH at 1 p.m. with grave side committal immediately following at South Lunenburg Cemetery in Lunenburg, VT.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in St. Johnsbury, VT to assist with their unwavering dedication in providing top quality, compassionate and loving care to cancer patients in the North East.
