William L. Joyce

STARK, NH - William (Bill) Lloyd Joyce, 80, died, May 14, 2024, at Weeks Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, NH with his loving wife and several friends by his side.

He was born on August 17, 1943, in Prince Georges Maryland, the son of William Sr. and Ruth (Schubert) Joyce.

Bill was a graduate of Keene State College where he majored in education.
He was the husband of Deborah (Nelson) Joyce. They were married on January 18, 1975.

Bill was a pew owner and member of the Methodist Church in Stark.

He worked for many years as the Industrial Arts (Shop) Teacher at Groveton High School. As a longtime resident of Stark, Bill served as their Police Chief, a selectman; he was on the school board and the cemetery committee in Stark for many years. Bill’s career also expanded into law enforcement. He was a special police officer in the town of Northumberland as well as an auxiliary trooper at Troop F.

Bill loved farming and spent a good part of his life on his farm in Stark, raising and taking care of horses, cows, and other farm animals. He served as a 4-H Leader for the Colt’s and Fillies and served as a 4-H member of the UNH Cooperative Extension for many years. He along with his wife provided horseback riding lessons, and watched many young equestrians grow and blossom over the years. He was always trailering riders to the horse shows, from local ones to state ones and even to the Big E in Springfield Massachusetts.

Bill enjoyed to be out in his garage doing wood working projects or participating in outdoor activities such as, horseback riding, sailing, canoeing, snowmobiling and skiing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Deborah, Hilary Gilcris whom he thought of as a daughter, his and Debbie’s siblings, nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.

A graveside service will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Stark Cemetery. Reverend Eungil Cho, pastor of the Stark Union Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Bill’s name can be made to the Stark Union Church c/o Debbie Montgomery, Treasurer, 42 Riverside Drive, Groveton, NH 03582.
