GILMAN - William T. Sullivan Jr. 88, of Jefferson Avenue, died Thursday morning April 17, 2014 at The Morrison in Whitefield.
Mr. Sullivan was born in Northumberland, NH on December 10, 1925 the son of William T. Sullivan Sr. and Nettie (Bean) Sullivan.
He was raised in Gilman and moved to Littleton in his teens. While there he supported himself by living and working at the Thayers Inn. He graduated from Littleton High School and was the quarterback for the football team. He was also vice president of his class, an honors student, sports editor for the "Record", Captain of Football, Athletic Association President, and member of the Hi-Y 4 Club. He returned to Gilman and worked 40 years at the Gilman Paper Mill retiring as supervisor of maintenance. He left for a time to serve with the US Army during World War II and was a paratrooper with the 82
nd
Airborne.
William was a fine athlete and enjoyed sports. For a time he coached basketball and baseball in Gilman and he was a good skier and skater. He also enjoyed travelling the countryside and bird hunting.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Family members include a son William P. Sullivan and his wife Elizabeth of North Hampton, NH; a daughter Gayle MacDonald and her husband Stephen of North Danville, VT; a daughter in-law Joanne Sullivan of Waterford, VT, four grandchildren, Tammy Cady and her husband Dave of Lyndonville, VT, Troy Sullivan and his wife Katie of Pennsylvania, Robbie "Frank" Briggs of Littleton, Kimberly Augeri and her husband John of Walden, VT; six great grandchildren, Caleb Augeri, Gracie Augeri, Jake Cady, Jordon Cady, Brody Sullivan and Sierra Sullivan. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia Anne (Boyle) Sullivan in 2009 and a son Timothy W. Sullivan in 2008.
A graveside service will be held Thursday May 15 at 11:00 AM in Riverside Cemetery, Lunenburg. Reverend Bernard Gaudreau, pastor of Saint John the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury will officiate.
