WHITEFIELD-Yvonne Roy, 96, of 9 Lancaster Road, died December 13, 2008, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
A Whitefield native, she was born August 12, 1912, to George A. and Delia J. Landry Roy.
Tootsie, her nickname from birth, was a 1931 graduate of Whitefield High School and a lifelong communicant at St Matthew Church. She worked for several local businesses and was a past member of the AFL/CIO Garment Workers Union. Tootsie was independent, friendly, and well known for her sense of humor, funny stories, and outgoing personality. Her extended family celebrated her birthday at reunions for more than 30 years. Her friends visited frequently and called often. She kept in touch with everyone and received letters, post cards and gifts from all over the world.
Her interests were extensive and eclectic, including current events, ice-skating, Western novels, and NASCAR. She was an avid moviegoer, created unique crafts, and collected coins and paperweights. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Family members include several cousins, 14 nieces and nephews, and many grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by, her parents; four sisters, Amelia Roy O'Brien, Gertrude Roy Williams, Eva Roy, and Phyllis Roy Shevlin; and two brothers, Cleo Roy and Henry Roy.
A celebration of Tootsie Roy's life will be held at a date to be announced in the spring.
